ARTIST’S STATEMENT

My photography is “in the moment” - not exactly street,

but what requires attention out of the corner of our eye:

a working woman reading to her daughters on the “A”

a stranger waiting for a train

a man shuffling through his lottery tickets

a musician playing the saw.

We all invent ourselves, every day, to survive,

and sometimes luck turns – theirs or ours –

the mask slips slightly and we can see

for a split second, the precious, vulnerable reality.

Sometimes, it’s a perspective with the viewpoint

or an architectural detail with tales of the past.

I used to think myself a wordsmith. Too many, it seems

people don’t read, or remember words past the day.

But that instant kodak clicks in their brain

and even playing “beat the clock”

one may still be coaxed

to listen between ticks, to the clicks.
